THE PORTRAIT PROCESS
An initial meeting starts this process — it may be over the phone if distance is a consideration. Various ideas for the painting will be suggested. It is important that thoughts regarding the subject, medium, setting, pose and attire are considered. Meeting the subject and knowing where the portrait will hang is helpful. If you are long-distance, this can be done by the use of photos.

It is Andre’s role as an artist to portray his vision of you in this portrait. You must agree to allow him this privilege, granted by his talent as an artist. For both practical and professional reasons, he will have the final say. When you are comfortable with his concept of the painting, and you choose to go ahead with the commission, an agreement will be signed and a deposit made.

A photo session will be scheduled. The artist will attend, determining the photographs he will need to complete the portrait. These will not be typical posed photographs. They are for the purpose of capturing the details and personality necessary for the portrait. No copies of the photos will be made available or shown to you. From these photographs, Andre will create the final concept you have agreed on, and you will have an heirloom for your family’s future.

As each portrait is time-consuming to paint, only a limited number may be done each year. If you are interested in having Rushing create a portrait for all or one of your family, please contact us quickly so we can put you on the waiting list.
